On August 12th we celebrated our 28th Anniversary for recognizing outstanding teachers in the
Dallas ISD. Of course COVID 19 caused the program to be quite different since it had to be on line . Nonetheless we heard moving tributes about this year's winners as well as testimonials from each one about their calling to public education.
The elementary school awardee Brittnay Connor grew up in foster care herself and thus has a special empathy with her students at the Paul Dunbar Learning Center. As one of her goals she seeks to empower her charges to be what they aspire to be. Above and beyond she also makes home visit to her students.

Shelly Thibodeaux has spent 32 years as an educator and is currently a teacher at Hill Middle School. Under her supervision 1700 back packs with supplies were given to students. She has had a long term relationship with WNBA star Nancy Lieberman and through Nancy's charity foundation $10,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students.

Yvonne Morgan was the recipient of the high school teacher's award. She Teaches at The School for Health Professionals at the Town View Magnet cluster. She is a licensed nurse and works with her students in seeking financial aid for higher education and nursing certifications for jobs  which far exceed the minimum wage.

The meeting concluded with remarks from our own top educator, Linus Wright.
