A huge crowd attended our annual joint meeting and celebration with Safer Dallas Better Dallas at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Dana DeVance served as Chair of the Day and Rachael Jones gave a moving tribute to Lieutenant Leroy Quigg aka Curly Top as the recipient of this year's Distinguished Service Award. Following his tour in the US Army he joined the Dallas Police Department in 1992. He began work with a Gang Unit which entailed enforcement but in 1997 he began working with at risk teenagers to keep them from joining gangs and helping others escape gangs.
 
Our own Gary Griffith presented the Public Safety Leader Award to Motorola Solutions. We heard about various hi-tech equipment which is now being used to surveil high crime areas including real time transmission of unfolding crime see to the police. Motorola Solutions  contributed $500,000 last November to the DPD's fight against crime.
 
After hearing from Chief U. Renee Hall and Charles Terrell, Jr. the club presented a $14,462.90 check to SDBD from proceeds of our annual golf tournament.
