As you read this the identity of the next mayor of Dallas, the highest elected official in city government is no longer in doubt. But such was not the case at our meeting on June 5th. The run-off candidates Eric Johnson and Scott Griggs were on the dais to answer questions about their visions for the future of Dallas ably presided over  by moderator Teresa Woodard- all three native born Dallasites.
In retrospect what remains in one's memory is not so much the substance of their answers but their style which was civil and courteous without personal attacks and name calling which seem more and more to be the way politics is waged at the national level.

During the past year we have hosted three meetings at which candidates at the local and national levels have engaged in Q and A debates. The common denominators in each were a focus on the relevant issues and an absence of personal animus. Accolades are in order for our program committee and it also speaks highly of the reputation of The Rotary Club of Dallas as an influential group of concerned and committed citizens.

Good luck and best wishes to our mayor-elect and the council members who will join him.
