On December 4th Kim Noltemy, President and CEO of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, gave us an update on goings on at the orchestra. Under the baton of Jaap van Zweden the DSO achieved Top Ten status among US symphonies. After his departure Fabio Luisi was hired, a renowned conductor in his own right. Fabio seems to be a perfect fit for the players and your writer can attest to the fact of his outgoing personality and accessibility. Ms. Noltemy reported on changes and innovations, principally being the execution of a 99 year lease from the City of Dallas which included an agreement that the city would undertake the cost of much needed renovations. The lease also allows for greater flexibility of programing at the Meyerson. Another exciting theme is greater involvement with school age students as audience members and as young people learning to play musical instruments provided by the DSO. The DSO is one of the artistic gems of Dallas. Hopefully under the leadership of Kim Noltemy more and more Dallasites will attend and experience it first hand.
