On July 15th we got a "blast from the past" from retired journalist, Byron Harris. Many of us remember his 42 years as a reporter on Channel 8,WFAA-TV. His investigative business and economic reporting  landed him four Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Peabody Awards and six DuPont Columbia batons. Not too surprisingly he lamented the fact that so many people get their news from "news feeds" which often lack the professionalism of journalists and the gatekeeping which fact checking used to require.

I found it quite interesting to learn that Byron's only t.v. news shows are  the PBS News Hour and BBC news . Among the print media which he reads are The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News and The Wall Street Journal, to which he has contributed over the years. He suggested that there are not enough news worthy events to fill a 24 hour news cycle which results in story repetition and hyperbolically described events which are essentially of no consequence.

One point which we can all take to heart is to read and listen to multiple media sources so that we can form our own views independently without resort to "news feeds."
